Tension is currently brewing amongst tricycle and motorcycle operators in Delta State as government allegedly perfects plans to increase increase the sale of daily operation tickets from N200 to N500 daily.

It could be recalled that Delta State government before the governorship elections in March 2023 stopped the sales of daily tickets for both tricycle operators popularly known as keke and motorcyclists in the state.

Expressing their worries and disappointment, the operators across the state said, it is unfair to increase the rate of daily tickets at this time when things are hard. They noted that times are hard for them and considering the hike in fuel and cist of living in the country, it is wrong for the Governor Oborevwori to consider such thing if at it is true.

While thanking the Delta State Government for the temporary stop in the sales of tickets in the past months, they expressed worries over the rumored increase, stating that touts employed as task force will now take advantage of the increment unleashed pains on operators. 

According to a keke ride who pleaded anonymity, said they are already facing troubles balancing their bosses N7,000 or N5,000 daily with the new fuel rate even as the masses now prefer to trek around rather than hiring their services.

Another Keke operator who spoke with our correspondent in pidgin English said, “Other state them dey give palliative, they find as e go easy for their people as things cost, e reach our state delta them want collect from us, we don hear of the increase since weekend but we dey wait them to start to sell am, them been say today Monday but God do well e nor start today, we pray make God touch our new governor heart to keep am as e be before or even leave am first for now.”

With the tormenting economy, the transporters are appealing that the Delta State Governor,  Sheriff Oborevwori look into the plight of Deltans and residents and repeal the rumuored ticket increase as operators are already tense over it.
