There is palpable tension in all the local government councils in Delta state as the Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC, has began a serious probe into the activities of the past and present council chairmen.
A reliable source privy to the invitation confided on SOUTHERNVOICENEWS.COM, that currently all the local government chairmen have been invited by the EFCC for possible investigation of all funds that came to the councils in the past years.
The source who is very close and privy to the invitation, disclosed that most of the council chairmen are under frustration and tension as previous administration’s squandered funds belonging to the council.
The source also hinted that a loan of 40 billion naira borrowed by the administration of Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, is also been serviced by the council chairmen, and noted that this may definitely hinder developments in the councils as funds meant for projects and development will now be diverted to servicing the loan.
The EFCC’s probe has reportedly sent shockwaves through the various local government councils, with many officials fearing potential repercussions if any financial irregularities are uncovered.
Meanwhile, residents of the affected local government areas are also expressing concern over the potential impact of the probe on ongoing development initiatives within their communities.
