Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas during a courtesy visit to the Management of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND, said illiteracy is a major challenge that leads to insecurity in the country.
The Governor during his visit to the urged the organization to build more entrepreneurship centers in Taraba to train youths in different skills.
He further appealed that the Executive Secretary of TETFUND should include the construction of E- libraries, and Computer Based Test Centres to cater for students seating for Jamb and other examinations in Taraba.
According to him “any project TETFUND will undertake in my State I will personally supervised it. I’ve declared free education for both primary and secondary education in the state and on the declaration of downward review of school fees of higher institutions, this are necessary efforts to reduce out of school children and encourage them to study” he said.
The governor identified that lack of education is the key reason for insecurity and noted that when everyone is in school nobody will be engaged in perpetrating evil.
In his speech, the TETFUND Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono said the request of the Governor will be treated as one of their front-line issues.
He said TETFUND has been in some institutions in the state carrying out physical structures and or training staff, adding that they will partner with Taraba State as key stakeholders.
The Governor was accompanied to the TETFUND head office in Abuja by the Commissioners of Education Dr. Augustina Godwin and Information Barrister Zainab Usman Jalingo, as well as the Provost, College of Education Zing, Professors Ejika Sambo among others.
