Mr. Bassey Sardauna, a Secondary School Teacher of Government Model School, in Jalingo, capital of Taraba has again be killed by a former student of the School, James Williams.
Tragedy Struck on Thursday afternoon when the teacher was brutally stabbed to death by his former student. The assailant, identified as James Williams, is currently at large, having attacked the teacher in a tricycle following a previous altercation.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the incident and stated that efforts were underway to apprehend the suspect.
The tragic incident occurred when the former student, accompanied by a friend, ignored the lined-up students waiting for inspection and walked through the school premises.
The deceased teacher, Mr. Sardauna, confronted the duo, questioning their behavior. This led to a confrontation, with the teacher resorting to hitting one of them with a stick.
According to Dr. Augustina Godwin, the state Commissioner for Education, the former student had visited the school to seek assistance from one of his teachers in signing his Air Force application form, as requested by his father. The situation escalated when the deceased teacher intervened, and an altercation ensued.
In response to the escalating violence, the school authorities called for local vigilante assistance to maintain order until closing time. However, the vigilante personnel left the premises shortly before the fatal attack. As the teachers accompanied the deceased to take a tricycle, the assailants, who had been hiding, ambushed and fatally stabbed him. Advertisement Governor Agbu Kefas expressed deep sorrow over the incident and directed an immediate investigation.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, the Governor also called for enhanced security surveillance to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
The community is left in shock and mourning as the search for the perpetrator intensifies, and questions about the safety and security of schools in the region come to the forefront. The State remains on high alert as authorities work to bring the assailant to justice and ensure the safety of its educational institutions.
