Delta State Police Command has said its operatives on the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team SAT, has on October 28, 2024, storm a criminal hideout along the Uwheru-Patani axis of the East-West road and engaged some suspected kidnappers and armed robbers terrorizing the area on a gun duel before arresting two.
According to a released by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, SP. Bright Edafe, the officers were ambushed by the suspected hoodlums, but the team engaged them in a fierce gun duel during which two of the suspects sustained bullet injuries and were arrested.
He disclosed that One Beretta Pistol loaded with two(2) rounds of live ammunition, and one AK-47 rifle loaded with six(6) rounds of live ammunition were recovered.
Preliminary investigations according to the image maker of the command, revealed that the suspects has been terrorizing the Warri-Sapele road and the Mosogar axis. The statement further noted that the gang are responsible for some killings in Oghara and Ughelli.
The injured suspects were taken to General Hospital Ughelli for medical attention but were later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. Investigation is ongoing.
In a similar development, the operatives of the CP – Special Assignment Team ( CP – SAT ) led by ASP Julius Robinson, on November 4, 2024, at different locations at Oton community and Sapele town, arrested five suspected cultists namely; Eremoje Dudun Oritsedere aka (General) ‘m’ (34) of Deghele community in Warri South West LGA Delta State but a resident of Oton Community in Sapele who was alleged to have in his possession the gang’s AK 47 rifle, Emmanuel Irhurhu ‘m’ 29, of Oton community in Sapele, Godstime Jacob ‘m’ (25) of Jesse community in Ethiope west LGA Delta State, Ighene Jeffrey ‘m’ (27) of Jesse Town in Ethiope LGA Delta State and Iboyi Gain ‘m’ (33) of Mosoga Community in Ethiope West LGA Delta State.
Preliminary investigation revealed that they are suspected members of the supreme Vikings Confraternity. The suspects were arrested on the strength of confessions made by one Philip Okunumah aka “G3” ‘m’ (28), of Jesse in Ethiope West LGA earlier arrested and confessed to a series of cult-related killings.
The operatives consequently recovered an abandoned operational Toyota Corolla with Reg No KWL 635 BU belonging to the gang and a Beretta Pistol Loaded with four(4) rounds of live ammunition were recovered.
The commissioner of Police Delta State CP Olufemi Abaniwonda urges parents and guardians to discourage their children and wards from all cult-related activities and also advises members of the public to contact the Police and report any suspicious persons or movement in their environment.
