Sons and daughters as well as well wishers of Ughelli Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, on Sunday, April 20, 2025, gathered to celebrate with the Ovie of the Great Ughelli Kingdom HRM, Evang. Wilson Ojakovo JP, Oharisi III, as he dedicated his newly completed modern palace and Royal Chapel to mark his 33rd coronation and his birthday anniversary.
The event attracted over 20 traditional rulers from various ethnic nationalities across the state.
The palace project which began 18 years ago, was described by the monarch as a journey of perseverance and divine grace.
“By the grace of God, I am very grateful and happy. It has not been easy, but with the support of my people and fellow traditional rulers, we achieved this milestone,” the Ovie said.
He stressed the significance of April 20, the exact date he ascended the throne 33 years ago, as the perfect day to celebrate despite calls for postponement.
The dedication of the Royal Palace Chapel, he noted, is a reaffirmation that the Ughelli Kingdom has long been committed to God. The chapel was officially dedicated by the Archbishop of Bendel and Bishop of Ughelli Diocese, Most Rev. Cyril Odutemu, alongside other senior clergymen.
In attendance were several dignitaries including the former National President of CAN and founder of Word of Life Bible Church, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, and the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Culture who represented the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Lawrence Eghwrudjakpor.
The monarch also used the occasion to urged residents of Ughelli to remain law-abiding and shun all forms of criminal activities, reaffirming his commitment to peace and progress in the kingdom.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the official cutting of the tape amidst cheers.
