Renowned Urhobo high life music legend, Chief Daniel Iriferi, popularly known on stage as Sally Young is dead.
The Oko Oko music crooner died on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the age of 91 after a brief illness.
A native of Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, Chief Sally Young music came to fame in the mid 70’s with the hit tracks ‘Oko Oko Kidie woruena’, Wejuvwe Vwomiyeri and many others.
With the news of his death, some of his fans are blaming the Urhobo nation for neglecting the ace musician over the years, but said at his death, he is being described as an icon.
An aged woman in her 80’s, Mama Regina Otomu, told this reporter that Chief Sally Young was a prophet because of his track, “Odjurodjuena Kodjurowevwe”. Meaning the breeze blowing is of hunger. She argued that what is happening presently in Nigeria is part of the prophesy of the late music legend.
The Urhobo music industry has lost an icon and he will be missed by all. May his soul rest on.
