DESPITE the heavy downpour and slight delay of electoral voting materials in Ughelli North, voters in their large numbers came out to cast their votes in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The heavy downpour started as early as 7: am in Ughelli never deterred voters to exercise their franchise.
Commending the large turnout, chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ughelli North, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, who casted his vote at about 10:25 am in DSIEC Ward 05, Unit 35 said, “The rain disrupted the early voting but our were not disturbed they turned out massively and we are hopeful that we are coming out victorious.
“With the reports I am getting from our agents is that voting is ongoing peacefully, maybe because of the people that are contesting have already stepped down and it is almost like a return unopposed.
But despite the heavy rain and weather, people are still coming out to vote and we believed that everybody has been given the opportunity to cast their vote peacefully.
“DSIEC did very well despite all the challenges, brought the materials and I envisaged victory for myself and my 20 councillors because they are all returned unopposed.”
On the withdrawal of the APC chairmanship candidate, Egbo said, “He Monday Otobrise is my younger brother and he endorsed my candidature and he is currently on his way to our party the PDP.
When he came to me,like what he said in his statement, he has already congratulated me and the candidate of the APP, Mr Brume Oriunu also came to congratulate me .
They believed that the governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori is doing well with the MORE Agenda and they want to join the train to ensure that our state and our Ughelli north deliver quality services, representation to our people and we salute them for the joining thr train.
At ward 1/4 unit 11, Chief Fred Majemite who described the election as peaceful assured that PDP will carry the day. Like I always say, Delta state is PDP.
He said, “This local government elections is a thing that we actually worked for, we campaign around the nooks and cranny of Ughelli north, we visited all the communities, units and this is the result and I am happy that our brothers from the other side have joined us.”
At Ogor DSIEC Ward 2, unit 7, a chieftain of the PDP, Olorogun Hon Kpuwhara Anthony said, Our people defied the early morning rain, trooped out in their large numbers as early as 7:am to wait for materials and they diligently voted their mind.
The massive turnout of Oviri-Ogor community people since 7:am until the voting materials arrived is a clear indication that they want to vote.
“My joy is that, the people came out at their free will to exercise their civic responsibilities and as you can see, it is violence free and my expectation is high as the PDP will carry the day.”
At Ward 12 unit 1and 2 Prince Elvis Oharisi disclosed that the capacity of the PDP formidable chairmanship candidate made his opponents quiver and majority of the opposition candidates stepped down for him and that means victory.
“The choice of the candidate in Jaro Egbo is generally accepted by the old and young and the expectation is very People are expecting much from him because of his previous achievements.”
