Early distribution and arrival of electoral materials at polling units for the governorship and state Assembly election have been commended by voters in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta state.
Electoral materials arrived the Ughelli Registration Area Centre, RAC at about 6:am and the distribution to polling units commenced immediately.
At unit 24 of ward 2/6 in Ughelli, accreditation of voters and voting commenced at about 9:am simultaneously in a peaceful atmosphere.
As early as as 6:30am, eligible voters were already on ground waiting to cast their votes for their preferred candidates.
At Osubi in Okpe local government area, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori casted his votes at ward 3 unit 33 at about 9.54:am.
In his remarks, he thanked the electoral body INEC for the early arrival of voting materials and the peaceful conduct of the exercise, and appealed to all voters to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner.
At Orogun, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who casted his votes along side his wife at about 11:11am unit 19, ward 2, said, ‘Today is a big day and the die is cast and from the assessment so far, we are going to win.
“I expect that at the end of the day, I will be declared winner, the other party’s came with the predetermination to ensure attacks are launched especially at Delta Central here because they do not have votes to defend but we are sure of victory”.
At unit 9, in Oghara Agbarha -Otor, ward 1, Engr Mrs Christabel Obiuwevbi who described the exercise as a peaceful one to a large extent, alleged that members of the other party were about causing rancour until the Army came to restore peace.
“In this unit, we have 1,458 registered voters and INEC brought only one BVAS machine but we are sure of victory for our party.
Also, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi of the APC said, ‘The process so far is good but there are some units where the voters are much and only two BVAS machines were provided for two units of over 1,400 voters
“However, the process is peaceful and those who are causing confusing know that they have failed in the two units of Oghara Agbarha-Otor”
It was gathered that BVAS machines were stolen, ballot papers and result sheets were destroyed by suspected thugs at Evwreni Ward 6 in Ughelli North.
At Oginibo in Ughelli South Local Government, the governorship candidate of SDP, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi commended INEC for the peaceful conduct of the election disclosed that he is going to win in a landslide victory.
“The process is very transparent apart from the irresponsible conduct of the other political parties, INEC has tried and i stand here and identified myself as the only person that can liberate Delta state.”
