As Deltans anxiously await for the submission of commissioners nominees, SA’s, SSA’s and other political appointees by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the state house of assembly to help and assist him drive and pilot the affairs of the state, there is a bothering question one would love to asked.Â
Deltans would love to know if the governor will be courageous and bold enough not to entrust the governance of the state into the hands of hallelujah men and women that have previously plunged the state into the dungeon of underdevelopment, infrastructural backwardness and debtedness.
Experienced have shown that since 1999 when Nigeria returned to democratic rule, and PDP taking over the state, Delta State have continued to recycles gale of hallelujah men and women who despite the fact that the system is corrupt, continued in singing praises of their pay masters to impunity, gross looting of state treasury and abuse of power.Â
From the time Governor James Ibori held sway till that of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, sycophants, corrupt and criminal politicians have planted themselves in government and continue to move from one position to the other.Â
Though, it would not be proper to be collective in the excoriation and castigation of all of them.
No doubt, there are some few ones among the horrible, corrupt, jobless, cruel, horrendous and obnoxious hallelujah men and women that have distinguished themselves in their various vocations especially in the private endeavours, but it is unfortunate that, once given the opportunity to serve the public, they fail woefully amd enriched themselves and few of their family members.
Some have even betrayed their faith, belief, religion and conscience by joining the bandwagon of thieving and diversion of state and public funds into personal treasury and living luxurious life to the detriment of the generality of the people of Delta State.
Realistically, if Governor Oborevwori desires the good of the state and its citizens, and believe in excellent delivery from his teams, then he needs fresh and intelligent young people who would come in with vigour, charisma and enthusiasm to working towards the achievement of his campaign mantra.
For a man who have served for over 24 years in governments and have been described as a failed politician and accused time without number of gross corruption to again make Oborevwori list, Deltans should not be expecting anything different from poor governance and infrastructural backwardness.Â
However, if Governor Oborevwori will be courageous enough to injects new hands, blood and vibrant intelligent people irrespective of their political background, tribe or religion and godfatherism and cabal, no doubt, his administration will deliver his MORE agenda.Â
Deltans need people with sound and verifiable backgrounds. In order to excel in his administration, the quality of people that will make his commissioner lists and heads the various ministries will determine the kind of government Delta state will be expecting.
It is impossible for someone to give what he or she does not have, and so, it will be a dream to seeing the wrong peg hanging in the right square hole and still believe it will work. Majority of the politicians we have today in Delta State are no doubt corrupt, dubious and selfish. It is true that majority of them work assiduously to bring in Sheriff Oborevwori into power, but, you and i know that they only did that to remain in power.
That shouldn’t be an excuse to bring in rogues, finished products and people without credibility in the name of party is supreme to the detriment of a whole state. There is no need opening and creating more avenue to enriched, filled their pockets, acquire more and lavished the fortune of the state.Â
Deltans are already angry and frowned at the composition of the DESOPADEC executives which consists of those who have been syphoning our resources over they years. They have been in government and holds one position or represented one part of the state at one time or the other, but were appointed in the wee hour of the past administration.Â
It will be wrong if the governor create such scenario that will be hyper offensive to the sensibilities of the discerning minds in the state.
In conclusion, I appeal to His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to look inward and critically examine those to be appointed commissioners in order not to disappoint the good people of Delta State that voted for him, prayed and believed in his street credibility.
